Main Characters
Ferit, Halis Agha’s grandson, is known for his lively and jovial character, although he has a reputation as a ladies’ man despite being in a relationship with Pelin. However, he realizes he doesn’t truly love her. As a punishment, his family sends him to study in the USA, but upon returning to Istanbul, he reverts to his carefree ways. Although he desires to live life on his terms, financial constraints prevent him from openly defying his family’s wishes. When his grandfather Halis Agha proposes a marriage with a Gaziantep native, Ferit reluctantly agrees, thinking it will be a mere formality to maintain his desired lifestyle.
Seyran Sanli, a Gaziantep native and Kazim’s daughter, is a beautiful, accomplished, and determined young woman. Her father’s affluence allows her to become proficient in both English and French. Nevertheless, Seyran is burdened by the expectations imposed by her family, especially her father and aunt. She aspires to continue her education, specializing in sculpture and painting, but succumbs to familial pressure and reluctantly marries Ferit, despite lacking genuine affection for him.
Suna, Seyran’s older sister, possesses beauty and innocence. Like her sister, she’s proficient in English and French. In contrast, Suna is a gentle, compliant, and reserved individual. Her aspiration is to secure a happy marriage and break free from her father’s expectations.
Halis, the patriarch of the Korhanli family, hails from Gaziantep and achieved business success in Istanbul. He is known for his authoritarian nature and strong adherence to tradition. Halis typically has the final say and often doesn’t heed his children’s opinions. When he loses faith in his grandson Ferit, he takes a tough stance and insists on Ferit marrying someone from Gaziantep.
Hattuc is Kazim’s aunt, affectionately addressed as such by Seyran and Suna. Despite coming from wealth, she recognizes the family’s reduced fortunes and, as a result, exercises strict control over their finances. Kazim entrusts Hattuc with managing household matters, and she remains unmarried, residing with her nephew Kazim and his family.
Ifakat is the elder daughter-in-law of Halis Agha’s family. She’s a widow who endured the loss of her husband and son in a car accident years ago. Ifakat is a determined and powerful woman who seeks to maintain control through various means. She holds substantial sway within the Korhanli family, staying close to her father-in-law, Halis Agha, and secretly having an affair with her brother-in-law, Orhan.
Orhan, the son of Halis Agha, is wedded to Gulgun, and they have two sons, Ferit and Fuat. He consistently complies with his father’s wishes and avoids disagreements. Orhan enters into a marriage with Gulgun primarily for the sake of his family, despite lacking genuine love for her. In a clandestine twist, he is engaged in a secret romantic relationship with Ifakat.
Gulgun Korhan, married to Orhan with two sons, knows about her husband’s affair with Ifakat but pretends she doesn’t. She wants to keep her marriage and be loved by her husband. She’s helpful and friendly to Asuman and Seyran and is dedicated to protecting her sons.
Abidin works for the Korhanli family and looks after Ferit, forming a strong friendship with him. He goes to great lengths to ensure Ferit stays out of trouble.
Kazim, Seyran and Suna’s father, grew up in a wealthy family and aims to sustain his lavish lifestyle by selling the lands inherited from his father. Despite his extravagant spending, he remains frugal when it comes to his family’s expenses. He is determined to see his daughters wed wealthy men and is keen on forming an alliance with the Korhanli family to achieve this goal.
Esme, Seyran and Suna’s mother, endures constant humiliation from her husband. Her inability to bear a son has earned her disdain from him. She maintains a quiet demeanor and serves the family as a domestic worker.
