The Turkish television series “Saladin: The Conqueror of Jerusalem” (Turkish: Kudüs Fatihi Selahaddin Eyyubi) is produced by Turkey’s Akli Film and Ansari and Shah Films. It revolves around the life of Saladin, the founder of the Ayyubid dynasty. Production for the series commenced in the summer of 2022. The producers have emphasized that the primary aim of the series is to educate non-Muslim viewers about Muslim history. The series is a joint endeavor involving historians from both Turkey and Pakistan.

The Conqueror of Jerusalem: Saladin

In the 12th century, when the Crusader invasions ravaged the Islamic world, disrupting unity and order among Muslims, many Islamic lands, particularly the holy city of Jerusalem, fell into the hands of the Crusaders.

Saladin’s Mission

Saladin, raised with the understanding of “justice to the world, freedom to Jerusalem,” was the leader of the Border Warriors under the protection of the Zengi State, who fought against the Crusaders for this cause.

The Siege of Ascalon

The Knights Templar besieged the city of Ascalon, the key to Jerusalem. If Ascalon were to fall, Jerusalem would strengthen, and the Zengi territories would also be in danger. Saladin wants to help the people of Ascalon to prevent this.

Challenges and Obstacles

However, there is a big problem: the people of Ascalon are enemies of the Zengis. Therefore, despite the decision of the state council, Saladin goes to help the people of Ascalon. Saladin now faces formidable obstacles.

The Spark of Love

In the midst of this challenging battle, a spark of love ignites between Saladin and the daughter of the Ascalon emir, Suriya. However, even though they are united in this war, they are on opposite sides.

The Outcome

Will the spark of love that touches their hearts grow, or will this war further fuel hostilities? Will Saladin be able to save Ascalon and achieve his goal? Will he be punished for disobeying the state’s and the sultan’s orders by going to Ascalon?

Starring Uğur Güneş and Dilin Döğer, the series also features successful actors such as Mehmet Ali Nuroğlu, Kaan Çakır, Erdinç Gülener, Tuvana Türkay, Ekin Türkmen, Gökçe Akyıldız, Sezgin Erdemir, Ece Özdikici, and Seda Yıldız. The production of “The Conqueror of Jerusalem: Saladin” is undertaken by Akli Film, with Emre Konuk as the producer and project designer. Sedat İnci directs the series, while the screenplay is by Serdar Özönalan.
