‘Bahar’ Review: Turkish TV Drama a Rendition of Korean “Doctor Cha”
Check out the latest buzz on ‘Bahar’! This Show TV drama is like a breath of fresh air in a room full of intense action and epic period sagas. With so many Turkish dramas vying for attention this season, ‘Bahar’ swoops in as the missing piece of the puzzle, possibly even claiming the title of the season’s finest.
Bahar Episode 1 and 2
Heads up! This review dishes out spoilers for Episode 1 and Episode 2 of Bahar.
Meet Bahar, the Turkish rendition of the beloved South Korean hit, Doctor Cha. Led by the phenomenal Demet Evgar, the show revolves around Bahar, a devoted stay-at-home mom of two. Ever since she found herself pregnant during her school days, Bahar’s life has been a whirlwind of devotion to her family. From the get-go, it’s crystal clear that Bahar’s love knows no bounds, even in the face of her family’s occasional ingratitude and downright disrespect.
Bahar’s Breaking Point
Bahar’s hit her breaking point, just like anyone else would. But here’s the kicker: she’s backed into a corner because she never got the chance to check all the boxes required to chase her dream of becoming a doctor. And to add insult to injury, her no-good, unfaithful husband, Timur (played by Mehmet Yılmaz Ak), is living the life she once dreamed of.
Bahar’s Wake-Up Call
Bahar, once again putting her family’s needs front and center, suddenly collapses. And what follows is a bombshell revelation: she urgently needs a transplant. After a battery of tests, guess who turns out to be the perfect match? None other than her husband.
But hold your applause, because he’s far from perfect. Despite Bahar being his rock for over two decades, all he brings to the table is a whole lot of nothing. With his mother egging him on, Timur pulls out all the stops to dodge the responsibility of saving the woman who’s dedicated her life to him and their children. It’s infuriating to listen to his litany of excuses, especially when Bahar would leap at the chance to save his life if the roles were reversed.
Bahar’s Miracle Moment
Just when Bahar’s life hangs in the balance at the hospital, a last-minute miracle swoops in, courtesy of a doctor named Evren (played by Buğra Gülsoy). It’s the first time in nearly two decades that someone has stepped up to bat for her, saving her life when she needed it the most.
Bahar’s Reawakening
As Bahar awakens post-surgery, it’s like she’s been given a second chance at life. Episode 2 takes us on a journey of self-discovery with her as she starts to reinvest in herself, something she’s neglected for far too long. But here’s where the tragicomedy kicks in: Bahar decides to step back, leaving everyone to fend for themselves. And guess what? In just one day of her absence, each member of the household begins to realize just how crucial Bahar’s role truly was.
Bahar’s Quest for Redemption
With newfound time on her hands, Bahar is determined to reclaim her life, starting with reigniting her medical career pronto. But guess who’s quick to rain on her parade? None other than Timur, showing his true colors yet again. He serves up a steaming plate of BS, seasoned with gaslighting and ageism, all in an attempt to squash Bahar’s dream. However, this time around, things are different. Post-surgery Bahar isn’t backing down. As a very wise man once said, “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned…” And Bahar is about to show just how fierce she can be.
Bahar’s Triumph
Despite being out of the field for over two decades, Bahar absolutely crushes the entrance exam required to become a medical assistant at the prestigious hospital where her husband works. But, of course, it’s not smooth sailing from there. Battling against the obstacles thrown her way by her husband and his mistress, Bahar’s determination shines through as she claws her way to the top once again. However, if history has taught us anything, it’s that the road ahead for Bahar will undoubtedly be filled with bumps and challenges.
Bahar: A Breath of Fresh Air
In a season filled with various dramas, Bahar emerges as a much-needed breath of fresh air. It serves as a poignant and stirring reminder of the unrealistic expectations burdening women in society, especially mothers, who are tasked with doing everything while being told not to expect anything in return. In just two episodes, this heartfelt show has reignited viewers’ hope and excitement for what the future may hold.
Turkish Twist on a Classic Tale
Even though it’s a remake, the Turkish rendition of this series infuses storytelling and characterization with a unique blend of real-world relatability. It’s like indulging in a sweet treat that caters to everyone’s tastes. Demet Evgar shines brightly as Bahar, delivering an honest portrayal that adds another gold star to her already dazzling repertoire.
Rising Star: Bahar
Although Bahar is still in its infancy, it’s already a sensation in Türkiye, and it’s brimming with promise. As a viewer, there’s nothing quite like the anticipation of tuning in each week to witness Bahar’s journey to the top, defying all odds along the way.
