In a significant milestone, “Yargı” becomes the first Turkish drama nominated in its category since 2018. Ay Yapım, the production company behind this success, previously won the award in 2016 with “Kara Sevda.” “Yargı” wins Emmy as it intricately weaves the tale of Ilgaz (Kaan Urgancıoğlu) and Ceylin (Pınar Deniz), whose lives take a pivotal turn as they collaborate to solve a murder case, leaving an indelible mark on their destinies.

In a remarkable achievement, “Yargı” emerged victorious at the International Emmy Awards, competing against acclaimed productions like Brazil’s “Cara e Coragem” and “Pantanal,” as well as Portugal’s “Para Semper.” The producer of the series, Kerem Çatay, director Ali Bilgin, scriptwriter Sema Ergenekon, and the lead actors Kaan Urgancıoğlu and Pınar Deniz graced the red carpet on Nov. 20 in New York to proudly receive the Emmy award.

Telenovela, a genre of soap opera predominantly aired in Latin America, originated in the 1950s and swiftly gained immense popularity across the region. Major television networks such as Univision, Venevisión, TV Globo, Telefe, Telemundo, Caracol Televisión, and América TV feature a diverse array of telenovelas in countries like Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Peru. These channels not only create content but also export it, making telenovelas a cultural export reaching audiences not only in Latin America but also globally.


The International Emmy Award for Best Telenovela is granted by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS), acknowledging outstanding achievements in telenovelas produced and initially aired beyond the United States. The inaugural presentation of the International Emmy for Telenovela took place during the 36th International Emmy Awards Gala in New York in 2008.
